This is a now better distributed hybrid selected by Robin White of the Blackthorn Nursery. This powerful hybrid forms a up to 45 cm high, but compact growing plant with very large and many flowers in extensive grapes. The amber-colored petals and long spurs show a dark orange gradient toward the center of the flower. Long flowering period, sometimes remontating. Very sturdy and nice.

Epimedium brachyrrhizum CPC940447

A Barrenwort with very large flowers, discovered in 1994 in the Chinese province of Guizhou, where it occurs on Fanjingshan at 600 to 1200m altitude. It blooms as one of the first, with wonderful two-tone lavender-pink colored flowers of four to five centimeters in diameter. Wintergreen, leathery foliage, speckled with red when budding. Compact growth up to 30 cm high. Still rare.

Epimedium x hybr. 'Domino' Cc990614

This hybrid from Darrel Probst from the year 2004 impresses with its strong and abundant flowering as well as the compact and strong growth. The evergreen foliage is narrow arrow-shaped and captivates during sprouting and flowering by red bronze drawing. The inflorescences are up to 60 cm high. The long spurred, large single flowers are mostly white to light pink except for the flower center, which contrasts in a strong purple. Under optimal conditions, the plants will bloom during the summer over a long period.

Epimedium x hybr. 'Enchantress'

This perennial is a cross between E. dolichostemon and E. leptorrhizum discovered by Elizabeth Strangman in the mid-1990s at the Washfield Nursery in Kent. The evergreen foliage is decorated with dark red spots in spring. Medium-sized flowers on long flower stems, the single flower is silver-gray-lavender, the flower center is purple overflowing. Striking are the bright yellow stamina, which protrude far out of the flower. Compact growth up to 40 cm in height and width.

Epimedium epsteinii

A smaller (20 cm) species. Very contrasted flowers drawn between pure white and dark purple, a real eye-catcher. Evergreen foliage with conspicuously long eyelashes on the leaf margin. Slow growing, but very robust. Forms 10 cm long stolons. Named after Harold Epstein, an epimedium collector from New York and former president of the North American Rock Garden Society. The species was first collected in 1994 by employees of the Beijing Botanical Garden in Hunan and spread by Darrel Probst.

Epimedium franchetii 'Brimstone Butterfly'

A very large-leaved and -flowered species from Hubei and Guizhou, there at 1250 m growing. Relatively compact growth, forming short spurs. Evergreen foliage, salmon pink shoots. Large, bright to dark yellow flowers with long spurs on up to 60 cm high inflorescences. The species was brought into culture in 1987 by Mikinori Ogisui as E. hunanense, this variety named in 1996 by William T. Stearn.

The wild species from Japan, introduced in 1830 by Philip Franz von Siebold in the Netherlands. Compact and slowly growing, up to 25 cm in height. Deciduous. Medium-sized, white flowers in 15 cm long panicles. A typical deciduous plant of Japan, North Korea and Manchuria. May be rather acidic soils, but grows well in neutral clay, but no alcaline soil! Sometimes reflowering in late summer.

A legendary species, which is praised in Chinese medicine as a strong aphrodisiac and sexual enhancer. The arrow-like pointed leaves represent the main ornament of this stately species, especially in the shoot it is marbled attractive red-bronze. Compact and growing up to 70 cm tall. An exceptionally ornamental elven species with very elegant and shiny, evergreen foliage. In the shoot overflowing attractive red bronze. A new variety introduced in 2012 by Plant-Delights-Nursery from the USA. One of the crossing partners is E. platypetalum. Forms a maximum of 15 cm high mats with small, evergreen leaves that have an attractive speckling in the spring. The dense mulch is covered with many bell-shaped flowers in a bright yellow. The flowering period is particularly long, it can sometimes last well into the summer. A hybrid with a great future.

Darrel Probst discovered this phenomenal species only in 2001 near Chongquing in Szetchuan. The foliage is large, long and spiked at the edges, sprouting with a few brown speckles. The flowers are very large with a color gradient from light to golden yellow up to the strong chocolate brown throat, very attractive. A special feature are the continuously branching inflorescences, which can reach over 2 m in height and remontate. Unique, with a great future.

A special form of the Wushan-Barrenwort collected by Mikinori Okisu. Elegant, long and narrow foliage that is attractively speckled when budding, evergreen. The inflorescence, which is well over one hundred individual flowers, is one of the largest among the epimediums, reaching heights of up to 80 cm. The flowers are quite large and have light yellow to caramel-colored spurs, which are purplish on the throat.
